Prepare Business Case

Notes

The Business Case provides a detailed explanation of the Scope, Cost, and Definition of the project. This information is normally required when it is necessary to provide an explanation of the benefits that will be realized as a result of the project. Larger or more complex projects usually require a Business Case.

Key Activities

  1. Develop High Level Milestone Plan
  2. Define Project Definition/Scope

Notes

  1. The high-level milestone plan identifies the key deliverables for the project. They can be broken down into more detail as the project moves forward.
  2. The Project Definition is a lighter version of the Project Charter. It should be used to capture key elements of the request.

Request for Information

Key Activities

Conduct Vendor Research

Notes

In identifying the proposed solutions or determining product costs, it is often desirable to conduct vendor research to see what technology is currently available in the market place. Contact the procurement office to identify vendors or to prepare a Request for Information (RFI). Consult with peers at other universities to determine potential solutions and their costs, benefits, and risks.
